A new benchmark for green gold extraction: the environmental and economic value of activated carbon technology
2025-06-05
Activated carbon gold extraction technology not only brings economic benefits, but also promotes mining production towards green and sustainable development.
The most prominent environmental advantage of this technology is that it can **treat low-grade ores that cannot be used by traditional methods**. The global easily exploitable gold resources are decreasing day by day. Activated carbon adsorption technology makes ultra-low-grade ores of 0.5-1 g/ton economically valuable, greatly extending the service life of mines.
In the wastewater treatment link, activated carbon is once again in action. Gold mine wastewater contains pollutants such as heavy metals and cyanide, and **activated carbon can effectively adsorb more than 95% of residual cyanide and heavy metal ions**, so that wastewater meets the discharge standards. Some advanced mines even achieve full recycling of wastewater and meet the "zero emission" standard.
"Activated carbon is also important in air purification." Safety engineer Liu Gong pointed out, "The dust and harmful gases generated in gold mining threaten the health of workers, and the activated carbon filtration system can remove more than 90% of harmful substances and improve the working environment."
The economic benefits are also significant. Compared with the traditional zinc powder replacement method, the carbon slurry method saves the investment in solid-liquid separation equipment and reduces energy consumption by more than 30%. The regeneration and recycling characteristics of activated carbon further reduce operating costs and increase comprehensive benefits by 25%.
With the high global gold price, activated carbon gold extraction technology has a broader prospect. Industry reports predict that the gold-specific activated carbon market will maintain an average annual growth rate of 8.5% in the next five years, with technological innovation and environmental protection needs becoming the main driving forces.
